Thank you to everyone who showed up for the book signing in St. Louis. I am overwhelmed with emotion. Just blown away with each loving face I saw. Flooded with memories with each person. My family and friends from Beaumont and Lincoln University showed up for me. I am in awe and I appreciate you all. One friend came from Colorado. One drove Memphis. Incredible! What a homecoming.
I was one of 100 Black participating authors at the 2024 National Black Book Festival, Oct. 17-19 in Houston with my memoir, "Road Trip." I brought along my cousins Karen Long of Houston (c), and Melinda Long who flew in from St. Louis to share the wonderful experience.
In fact The Open Book in Woodland Hills invited me back. I will let you know when there's another Meet the Author event there. #RoadTripAMemoir

Here's a snippet from Road Trip: A Memoir. Enjoy
The natural, captivating way in which Dr. Stallworth writes his book, Are You a N****r or a Doctor? A Memoir, beginning in the “Jim Crow” era of Birmingham during the mid-1940s to the 1980s, and his precarious adventures make this memoir an easy read. His narrative writing style has an appealing conversational tone that draws one in.
Through his vivid and enthralling descriptions, the book brings the past to life. You feel as if it has transported you to the past with him.
His characters, no matter how brief the encounter, come to life on the page.
Heartwarming, numbing, entertaining, and informative. I think everyone can relate to his physical evolution from childhood to adolescents, which Dr. Stallworth describes with humor and self-reflection.
By the end of “Are You”, the reader has a measure of the distance traveled over the years. He shares the good, the bad, and the ugly.
You can learn from it, and once you begin to read, it is hard to put down.
Are You a N****r or a Doctor? A Memoir is Dr. Stallworth’s first book published since retiring in 2018, after 45 years of a Los Angeles medical practice as an anesthesiologist. He began to pursue his unrevealed passion for writing, starting in 2015.
In 2018, Denise Nicholas, award-winning actress and author of the acclaimed book “Freshwater Road,” invited the retired Dr. Stallworth to join her Longwood Writers’ Workshop. He began the memoir in that workshop and delivered it in December 2022 and published it in February 2023. He is writing a murder mystery novel (Murder at BeautyWorld) and plans to publish a book of Sunset photos (SUNSETS by Otto Jr. MD) soon.
In early 2022, he began a non-profit foundation, the Stallworth OhYes! Foundation, which, in August 2022, awarded four-year full scholarships to a student at Howard University in Washington, D.C., and to a student at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee, his alma maters.
His goal is to award many more scholarships from donations to the Stallworth OhYes! Foundation.

My cousin, Melinda Long, flew to Houston from St. Louis, to help me sell books. What a peach!
Things that float through my mind.
